of the video message from Dmitry Danilov
Good evening, I am Dmitry Danilov, composer and choral conductor from St. Petersburg, organizer of "The New Melodies" I International Competition of Composers. Very soon we will sum up the results of our competition – some members of the jury have already sent their ratings, but some of them are still in the process of listening to the materials. Yes, we are a little late, but this is a creative process, it is inevitable. All the members of the jury are in-demand musicians who participate in a huge number of their projects, so please treat this moment with understanding.
102 composers from 17 countries participate in our competition. Musicians from Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, India, New Zealand, United States of America, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, unrecognized state Donetsk Republic, and, of course, composers from various regions of Russia – from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin, from the Komi Republic to the Stavropol Territory. There are 166 entries in the competition.
The competition is held in two categories (amateurs and professionals) and in three main musical sections - choral music, vocal music and chamber-instrumental music. The number of participants varies. Amateur composers sent 41 compositions to the competition, and professionals 3 times more – 125. In addition, each section is divided into categories by genre – so, the essays are distributed even less evenly by category – so, there is a category in which 17 works are presented, and there are several categories in which one composition participates.
Probably, everyone is interested in the question, how will we determine the winners? All members of the jury give ratings on a 10-point system according to 5 main criteria: "The overall impression of the presented work", "The individuality of the musical language", "The originality of the idea and artistic image", "The brightness and originality of the melodic material", and"Convenience for performance". It turns out-up to 50 points from each member of the jury. Then the scores are added together and we get the final result.
The title of the laureate of the competition will be awarded to the participants whose compositions received the three highest ratings within their sections. If the scores are equal, the seats will be divided. The works of the laureates of the competition will be performed at the gala concert.
The title of the category winner will be awarded to the participants who have scored the highest score within their category, provided that more than 2 or more essays participate in it.
The title of the diploma winner of the competition of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree will be awarded to all participants whose essays will receive a positive rating from the jury - this is more than 50% of the possible points scored.
If your work received low ratings, it does not mean that your work is bad, and, moreover, it does not mean that you are a weak composer. This only means that it did not make an impression on specific musicians. Our competition will be held annually, and next year the jury will be completely changed. And other musicians can appreciate your work in a completely different way!
In addition, we aim to popularize all the compositions participating in our competition. Yes, in the gala concert we include only the compositions of the laureates, but our organization regularly holds chamber music concerts in St. Petersburg, and next season we plan to expand our geography, hold concerts in other regions of Russia, and in the future in other countries, and in these concerts we will definitely include the compositions of the laureates, diploma winners and just participants of the competition "New Melodies". In addition, in the second half of this year, we will hold a competition of musicians-performers-vocalists and instrumentalists, with an emphasis on the performance of modern music, where the compositions of the participants of the contest "New Melodies" will be offered as recommended for performance. And the winners of this performance competition next year will be the performers of the compositions of the composers-participants of the II competition of composers "New Melodies".
So I told you a little about my future creative plans. In the next issue, we will finally reveal the names of the jury members of our competition. We very much hope that this will happen at the beginning of next week.
Thank you for your attention! Good luck, good luck, and see you again!!
