1. General provisions

1.1 This Regulation defines the goals and objectives, the main categories, the procedure for conducting and summing up the results of the II international competition of composers "New melodies" (hereinafter – the Competition).

1.2. The Competition is aimed at reviving the interest of modern composers in creating new compositions, as well as supporting talented authors, identifying new names in the field of modern music and introducing the works of these authors to the General public.

1.3. The founder of the Competetion is “Dmitry Danilov Music Agency" LLC

1.4. The actual holding of the Competetion is provided by the Organizing Committee of the competetion.

2. Goals and objectives

2.1. The Main goal of the competition is to promote and revive the genres of choral, vocal and chamber-instrumental music, to arouse interest in it among both modern composers and a wide audience of listeners, to identify and support talented authors, to help them realize their creative abilities, to spread and promote new choral, vocal and chamber-instrumental music.

2.2. The Objectives Of The Competition:

• updating the genres of choral, vocal and chamber-instrumental music in the works of contemporary composers;

• creating a support system for talented composers;

• identification of composers working in the genres of choral, vocal and chamber-instrumental music;

• assistance in popularizing the competition winners' music through its performance by professional artists in concert halls of St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia and the World, creating a unique free aviable archive with notes of composes by participants of the competition.

3. The conditions and procedure of Competition


3.1. In the Competition can participate composers

with no limit for age, education and citizenship.

3.2. The competition is held in the following sections:

  • Section 1 – choral music. Compositions for choir or vocal ensemble a-capella or accompanied by one or more (no more than three) instruments

    Category A – large-scale Orthodox music. A work on canonical Orthodox texts of a large, including cyclical, form. Playing time – up to 30 minutes

    Category B – Orthodox music. Choral miniature on canonical Orthodox texts. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category C – large-scale music of other denominations. A work based on canonical religious texts of a large, including cyclical, form. Playing time – up to 30 minutes

    Category D – spiritual music of other faiths. Choral miniature on canonical texts of other religious denominations. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category E – secular choral music of a large form. Music for poetic texts in any language or without texts of a large, including cyclic, form. Playing time – up to 30 minutes

    Category F – secular choral music. Choral miniature for poetic texts in any language or without texts. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category G – choral treatment of a folk song in any language. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category H - composition for children's (1-2-voice) choir of younger age (5-9 years) in any language. Playing time - up to 5 minutes

    Category I - composition for children's choir of middle and older age (10-16 years) in any language. Playing time - up to 5 minutes

  • SECTION 2 – vocal music. Composition for a-capella voice or accompanied by one or more (no more than four) instruments.

    Category A – academic vocal composition of a large form. A large-scale vocal composition (including a vocal cycle) for one or more voices on poetic texts in any language or without them in an academic genre. Playing time – up to 30 minutes

    Category B – academic vocal music. Vocal music for one voice to poetic texts in any language or without them in the academic genre. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category C – academic vocal music – duets and trios. Vocal music for two or three voices on poetic texts in any language or without them in the academic genre. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category D –romance. Vocal music for one voice to poetic texts in any language or without them in the genre of romance. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category E – romance – duets and trios. Vocal music for two or three voices on poetic texts in any language or without them in the genre of romance. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category F – pop vocal music. Vocal music for one voice on poetic texts in any language or without them in the genre of pop songs (include jazz, blues, rock etc). An electronic phonogram is allowed as an accompaniment instead of an instrumental score. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category G – pop vocal music – duets and trios. Vocal music for two or three voices on poetic texts in any language or without them in the genre of pop songs (include jazz, blues, rock etc). An electronic phonogram is allowed as an accompaniment instead of an instrumental score. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category H – children's vocal music. Vocal music for one voice to poetic texts in any language or without them, intended for performance by children. Playing time - up to 5 minutes

    Category I - children's vocal music (duets or trios). Vocal music for two or three voices to poetic texts in any language or without them, intended for performance by children. Playing time - up to 5 minutes

  • Section 3 – chamber and instrumental music. Composition for one or more (recommend no more than five) instruments.

    Category A – academic mono-instrumental composition of a large form. An instrumental composition of a large form (including a cyclic one) for a single musical instrument in an academic genre. Playing time – up to 30 minutes

    Category B – academic composition of a large form for an instrumental ensemble. Instrumental composition of a large form (including cyclic) for several musical instruments (from 2 to 5) in the academic genre. Playing time – up to 30 minutes

    Category C – academic mono-instrumental miniature. A work of small form for a single musical instrument in the academic genre. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category D – academic chamber and instrumental ensemble. A work of small form for several musical instruments (from 2 to 5) in the academic genre. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category E – pop mono-instrumental miniature. A work of small form for a single musical instrument in the pop genre. Playing time – up to 5 minutes

    Category F – pop chamber and instrumental ensemble. A piece of small form for several musical instruments (from 2 to 5) in the pop genre. Playing time – up to 5 minutes
There are 4 NOMINATIONS in each category of each section:

"Y" (young composers):
- children-composers up to 15 years old

"L" (amateurs):

- composers who do not have higher or secondary specialized musical education
- students of music schools aud colleges

"P" (professional composers):
- composers with musical education in the specialty "composition"
- students of music universities in the specialty "composition"
- members of professional composer organizations

"M" (professional musicians)

- composers with higher or secondary specialized musical education in any other specialty, except the specialty "composition", and are not members of professional composing organizations.
- students of music universities in any other specialty, except for the specialty "composition"

3.3. Special conditions:


• In case of participation in the competotion music on foreign (not Russian and not English), the participant is obliged to provide the text literal translation on Russian or English language, as well as an audio file reading the text of the works in the original language.

• The competition is not open to music made in the form of treatments of works by another authors. It is allowed to process single-voice medieval Church chants, melodies of spiritual verses, as well as to quote fragments of Church chants, spiritual verses and folk songs as one of the elements of the author's own score.

• Each participant can submit an unlimited number of compositions to the Contest.

• Compositions that participated in "The New Melodies" I International Composers' Competition, cannot participate in the competition again



3.4. The competition is held in two stages:


• The Jury members review the works participating in the competition in absentia and anonymously, based on the musical notes sent by e-mail under the motto or pseudonym. At the end of the review, the contest results and evaluation lists of the jury members are sent to the contest participants ' email address.

• The award ceremony and gala concert of the winners is held in one of the concert halls of St. Petersburg in the form of a public event with free access to the audience. The audience award is being played as part of the Gala concert. If it is not possible to hold a gala concert as a public event due to the epidemiological situation or other emergency circumstances, the gala concert will be held online.


3.5. The dates of Competition:

  • Accepting applications
    from November 1 to December 25, 2021
  • Consideration of music by the Jury members
    from January 10 to February 15, 2022
  • Gala concert
    during 2022 (april-may)
  • Terms
    may be changed (extended) at the discretion of the organizing Committee
3.6. Participants of the competition are determined by the organizing Committee in strict accordance with the current regulations. The laureates and diploma winners are Selected by the competition Jury.

3.7. The list of participants of the contest under the mottos will appear on the Internet resources of the Contest shortly after the end of accepting applications.

3.8. The Results of the competition, the real names of the participants and the list of the jury staff will be published in the second half of February 2021.

3.9. Entry fee for participants of the Contest: categories of large forms (1A, 1C, 1E, 2A, 3A, 3B) - 3000 rubles for the first application, 2500 rubles for each subsequent application from the same participant; other categories - 2000 rubles for the first application, 1500 rubles for each subsequent application from the same participant

4. The application process for the Competition

4.1. To participate in the qualifying round, the applicant must submit an application to the Organizing Committee of the competition by December 25, 2021, including:

• the score under a pseudonym or motto in PDF format. The score must either be typed in a program for typing notes (Finale, Sibelius, etc.), or clearly and legibly written by hand. The real name of the author should not be indicated on the score

• exceptions are the participants submitting applications in section 2, categories D, E, F, G – they have the right to send a melody written in notes with harmonic digitalization instead of the score. However, the participants who became laureates in these categories are required to prepare a score (in the categories "F" and "G", instead of the score, you can provide a soundtrack "-") for the performance of their composition at the gala concert.

• in case of participation in the competition with the music in a foreign (not Russian and not English) language - the literal translation of the text on Russian or English, and also an audio file including reading the text of the compositions in the original language.


• a participant's questionnaire containing brief information about the author (the application form of the established sample is attached to this Regulation). By signing the application form, the participant confirms his / her consent to this Competition regulation.

• it is highly desirable to have an electronic file with the score of the composition in the program for a set of notes

• the participants can also include a demo recording of their music in the application (the recording can be made using electronic means)

• after accepting the application, the organizing Committee sends the participant a response letter by e-mail indicating the Bank details of the organizing Committee, to which the participant must transfer the amount of the registration fee within 3 calendar days after submitting the main application, and send by e-mail a photo or scan of the receipt confirming the banking operation.


4.2. All information submitted to the Competition must be presented in Russian or English. The motto or nickname must be written in Latin or Cyrillic letters.

5. Other conditions

5.1. The Winners of the competition are determined according to the results of the Jury's decision. The final decisions of the competition Jury are not remade.

5.2. The Jury owns its right to divide or not to award any of the prizes, and also can award with special diplomas.

5.3. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reduce the points of participants in case of violations of technical regulations (timing, number of instruments), as well as disqualify participants in case of gross violations of the regulations of the competition. In the event of such a situation, the Organizing Committee undertakes to provide the participant with a detailed and reasoned explanation of the reasons for what happened.

5.4. Participants do not claim financial remuneration for the performance of their compositions at the gala concert of the competition, and also at any event held organize by "Dmitry Danilov Music Agency" LLC

5.5. All participants of the qualifying round, regardless of the results of the competition, have the right to publish their competitive compositions in the Internet music archive of the Competition www.ddagency.org/notarchivrus

5.6. The cost of copying choral and instrumental parts is borne by the Organizing Committee.
